WACS/Cheadle Hulme U14 lose away at Poynton
By Roberto Simi
Battling performance not reflected by the scoreline
Poynton started strongly with 2 very quick goals and it felt somewhat ominous for a few minutes but W-CH shook themselves up with some good attacking play culminating in a fabulous team goal finished off by Sean. Ethan was instrumental in defence and midfield throughout the match with a great long pass to Ross who had a chance on goal. It was a game though of "despite long spells from W-CH..." in pretty much every quarter... so... despite long spells from W-CH, Poynton finshed the first with 3 quick goals to lead 5-1. The 2nd started well with a fab full length pass and move - starting at the back with Jack to Harry to Ross to Ben and finally Sean scored a lovely goal. Poynton were kept at bay for much of the 2nd period and it looked like W-CH would win out the quarter but Poynton squeezed one through just before the whistle. Again in the third Poynton were well managed and nullified by Liam, Jack and Ethan at the back and some lightning reactions from Rhys in goal. However despite long spells from W-CH, Poynton scored a flurry of goals which they worked well but felt unjustified from the efforts put in by Wacs/Cheadle Hulme. In the final quarter W-CH continued their combative performance - whilst a relatively clean match it was a bit of a bruiser - Poynton scored 2 more but there was a satisfying finish. A long ball out from Poynton fell just in front of a waiting Ben and Luca but they had to stay onside and couldn't reach it. Ross ran back from an attacking position and picked up the ball, turned a defender and realised he had a clear run at goal. He ran in and kept looking up for a pass but opted for the better option and went straight for the jugular and scored. A loss but an entertaining one from the sidelines. Good effort all.
