A positive start and end but ultimately outplayed by Mellor
By Roberto Simi
A lovely crisp morning in the rarefied altitude of Mellor saw W-CH off to a bright start
With Mellor one of the top U14s team it was always going to be a difficult game but W-CH were well organised and kept on top of the majority of their attacks in the first quarter. The best chance of the quarter fell to Samuel with a pass from Sean but he couldn't quite turn quick enough to line up his shot. Mellor were restricted to a 2-0 lead by the end of it. However the next 2 quarters W-CH let them play a little too much and their passing skills and movement off the ball really hit home. In the second quarter Luca created a good opportunity for himself with some deft dodging only to see his shot saved whilst at the other end Rhys made some excellent stops despite the scoreline finishing 5-0. Then the third saw them extend their goal tally to 7-0. But with some father and son vocal energy from Tony and Ben on the touchline W-CH lifted their game in the final quarter. Ethan burst through and with a pass to Harry he went on a dodging drive through their defence to score the deserved goal he has been threatening for the last 3 games. For the rest of the quarter despite a number of Mellor breakaway goals the level of play and constant pressing from W-CH was commendable.
