WACS/CHLAX U14 win at Timperley
By Roberto Simi
Ice, Rain, Wind, Hail but the sun finally shone on a WACS win
The game started with a lot of patient intelligent play from both sides and was back and forth for quite a while without any breakthrough. Timperley had the best of the early chances but, unlike the weather WACS knew what they were doing. They held their defence shape well and Matt pulled off 2 superb saves. WACS experienced CHLAX players soon started to stand out with a number of fast breaks and a brace of goals from James. Timperley took a timeout that seemed to help their cause as they came out and quickly got one back. But WACS finished the quarter strongly a fierce shot from Issac went just over. Ross recovered the ball from behind and delivered an inch perfect pass right through the middle to Thomas who made it count. A great team goal passing around the Timperley defence and finished by James and the score was 1-4 at end of the first.
The second quarter was harder going for WACS. Jack, Tom and Issac combined well early on before WACS misjudged a number of challenges and had a series of players out. Timperley took advantage with 2 goals. After a WACs timeout calmed things down James scored a fifth after some slick passing. Jack was full of energy today and channelled it well at the end of the second driving forward with a strike on goal that the keeper defected onto the bar.
Timperley came out strong at the start of the third and scored two quick goals to level the score at 5-5. Jack, Tom and Issac once again combined well on the right and Sean muscled his way through a few challenges and saw his shot saved. Ben followed this with a charge down the left with passes into Jack and Thomas who expertly lined up James who restored WACS lead. Issac and James both took a goal each to extend the WACS lead to 5-8. It wasn't all one way though as Timperley had numerous breaks but WACS where really in shape at the back Liam's body challenges, Joe's long stick checks and Harry's timely interceptions. On top of that Matt who was in goal for the full game made some outstanding saves including a blistering shot when 1 on 1 with a Timperley player.
Timperley pulled one back but Thomas scored again at the end of a very long third quarter.
The fourth passed much quicker, with 4 on the bench WACS were able to rotate midfield and attackers regularly. Luca supported well down the right and Hannah on the left during a number of moves towards the end of the game - Ben had a good chance but shot just wide. Timperley scored a couple but WACS finished a great game with two more from James and Thomas.
